Tokheim, in partnership with Fenotec, develops a new innovative tank lining solution available for the retail, commercial and domestic applications. The patented process is significantly safer, faster and cheaper when compared with the traditional method of tank replacement or refurbishment.
The process is unmanned as no operator enters the tank, limiting the health and safety risks. The installation of the tank lining system can be completed in just a few days, reducing the station’s downtime significantly and minimising the impact on the Customer’s business. The solution is also extremely cost-effective versus tank replacement. The tank liner from Tokheim is suitable in various situations where a tank leak has occurred or a tank needs to be replaced, if a new product/ fuel is to be added, or if tank coating is impossible due to high internal corrosion.
How it works in five easy to follow steps:
In preparation, Tokheim cleans the tank via an unmanned process.
Tank is measured with Tokheim 3D laser calibration tool and the liner is tailor-made to fit the tank.
A protective mattress and liner are placed in the tank.
The tank liner is inflated to act as a second skin of the tank, determining its size and shape.
The tank is commissioned, thoroughly tested and inspected via vacuum leak detection and camera systems. The tank is now ready for use again.
Benefits for a customer and their business:
The tank lining solution from Tokheim has been successfully rolled out in many countries across Europe.
Tokheim, one of the world’s leading suppliers of fuel retailing solutions, is pleased to announce that it has launched its innovative mobile payment solution, with first pilot sites having been deployed in the Netherlands. The Tokheim mobile payment turns the classical fuel card or cash payment into a modern and flexible fuelling app opening up new ways to enhance customer interaction.
The mobile payment app offers consumers a fast and secure way to pay for fuel, view their historical usage and automatically retrieve electronic receipts on their smartphone. Whilst respecting fuel station health and safety regulations, consumers can handle the complete payment process on their mobile phone from within their own vehicle.
The beacon technology utilised by Tokheim will enrich the fuelling experience even further. Beacons will trigger a welcome notification to the smartphone when arriving at the station and confirm the location of the dispenser to the mobile phone.
Security and privacy is fully guaranteed as no card numbers or sensitive personal data are stored on the smart phone.
The Tokheim cloud-based mobile payment server, COMPASS, manages the entire process and interacts with Tokheim’s leading fuel retail automation system, the Fuel POS, for forecourt activity and reporting. COMPASS also transmits the financial transactions to Tokheim’s payment host, OASE, for further authorisation processing.
Kurt Dillen, General Manager System & Electronics Business Unit comments: “Tokheim is constantly exploring new technologies to create a seamless and pleasurable fuel station experience for the customers. The mobile technology has changed the way we look at our environment, and the fuel station is no exception to that. Our primary aim is to provide added value to existing and new customers and end-users by simplifying the process and reducing the time at the pump. We believe that this solution will help improve the customers’ fuelling experience significantly.”
As part of the company’s continuous improvement strategy, we implement and support various initiatives and programs to reinforce our safety culture and its aims. This includes the regular training of our staff and contractors, the promotion of the proactive approach to safety and recognition of the successful and safe performance.
With this in mind, Tokheim joined Shell in their ‘Safety Day’. Held globally, the annual event helps employees and contractors of Shell to strengthen the safety culture by sharing ideas, best practices and common support. This year’s theme was “Intervene”, which highlighted the significance of the interventions and awareness amongst front line workers to prevent dangerous and high-risk situations.
In May, a few hundred Tokheim employees participated in the Shell Safety Day, with field technicians and office-based staff taking part in training and educational sessions in several countries across the world.
The following best practices have been identified and shared locally:
Poland: evacuation from a vehicle, fire extinguishing and first aid exercises with a local fire brigade
Bulgaria: fire extinguishing exercise
Slovakia: risks on a construction site and lessons learnt from incidents
RSA: educational session on how to reduce risks for an end user on a forecourt
France: discussion on “Intervene” attended by Tokheim CEO, Baudouin de la Tour
Germany: rescue procedures from confined spaces and working at height in line with the tank lining unmanned entry exercise
The Shell Safety Days give both companies and their employees around the world an excellent platform for sharing the common practices and lessons learned from the best examples in the industry. This allows both companies to further enhance their already strong safety cultures.
Alexander Metzger from Tokheim Germany has been awarded a title of “Safety Champion” by Shell and Johnson Controls for recognising a defective tank pipe and replacing it with health and safety rules in mind.
Jochen Schraff, Sales & Service General Manager, Tokheim Germany
Over the last several years, Tokheim have invested, enhanced and transformed their operations in Germany. After the acquisitions of several service companies, Tokheim have continued to strengthen its market leadership position and deliver to our customers an even better product and service experience.
To further optimise the wider business opportunities in Germany, at the start of 2015 Jochen Schraff has been appointed as the Sales and Service General Manager for Germany and has since been implementing new initiatives and changes across the business.
We have asked Jochen to give us a brief introduction to his background, career and plans for the future.
Tell us about your professional background prior to joining Tokheim.
I grew up in Augsburg, Bavaria where I also studied and graduated with a degree in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Augsburg. I started my professional career at Washtec, the leader of the European car wash industry. Over the last 18 years, I held numerous management positions within Projects, Products, Sales and Service at Washtec. For the last three years before leaving the company, I was in charge of the Sales & Service Division for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Throughout my career, I have had different crossovers with Tokheim and I am looking forward to working for a successful company in a worldwide environment again.
What are your main priorities in the new role and what kind of projects will you be involved?
The first objective was to bring various sales and service companies together under one management team with common systems, processes and culture. As part of the change, we also made a decision to adopt the well-known Tokheim Quality logo as a unified brand in Germany. The intention is to mirror the established and successful model by developing a dedicated Sales and Service Division (SSD) in Germany, further increasing sales, enhancing the relationship with our customers and establishing Tokheim as the leader in the four businesses in which it operates: Dispensers, Systems, Construction/Project Management and Service.
I am extremely enthusiastic about my new role and the company and I have no doubts that the changes we are implementing will help deliver for our customers and partners the highest quality products and added value for their businesses.
We would like to wish Jochen full success in his new role at Tokheim.
Tokheim have launched a new super heavy-duty dispenser capable of dispensing diesel at 200 litres per minute (lpm), targeting sectors such as high-throughput motorway sites, marine, off-road, mining, rail and farm equipment, amongst others.
This offering is revolutionary, as it brings to these market segments the performance guaranteed by the state of the art Tokheim Quality Meter along with the safety, reliability and consistent user experience offered by a retail dispenser.
The Q310 200 lpm was exhibited in 2014 at the Uniti Expo in Stuttgart, Germany and since then various successful installations have been carried out across Europe and Africa with extremely positive feedback from satisfied customers.
The Q310 200 lpm retains all the quality features of the standard Quantium 310 that has always been a popular choice among our customers.
Tokheim ATEX-approved AdBlue® dispensers customised for Light Vehicle (LV) applications are now operating across various sites in Europe as the result of Euro 6 legislation coming into effect since September 2014.
To complement the Adblue® LV dispenser for passenger cars on the forecourt, the compact 1,000 litre Adblue® ATEX-approved tank is ready for launch to market. The AdBlue® LV dispenser range and tank are is expected to become a popular choice for our customers, as the fuel retailers prepare their stations in anticipation of stricter emissions control limits with Euro.
Tokheim strives to be the leader in providing the fuel retailing industry with the state of the art products and it is not different for the Adblue solutions. The latest development of the Light Vehicle dispenser is a great proof of our commitment to offer solutions that are safe, reliable and of the highest quality for the emerging retailing demands across the forecourt.
Tokheim introduces a new larger high contrast LCD display option on the Quantium 510 fuel dispenser. Having recognised the needs and requirements of the industry, the improved display will provide our customers with larger sized digits as well as enlarged unit price and transaction value space. The allowance for up to 7 digits for a transaction and 5 digits for a unit price will enable currencies with a higher unit price to display more accurate values, while the larger-sized digits provide better and clearer visibility for the end user.

Tokheim is delighted to announce that the new Penny Petroleum sites are now all fitted with Tokheim Q510 dispensers complete with Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC). The existing sites equipped with the dispensers recently installed prior to the stations takeover, have been retrofitted with ATC.
Penny Petroleum, the operator of over 30 Esso, Jet and Gulf-branded sites in the North East of England and Scotland, have been a permanent fixture in the top 10 of the Top Indy Retailers in UK.
The relationship between Tokheim and Penny Petroleum is a well-established one as both companies have maintained a close working relationship for over 20 years.
Penny Petroleum MD David Penny quoted, “ATC is a must product in our part of the world and it makes sense to install when re-pumping”.
The Penny Petroleum image is now enhanced by the use of full stainless steel panels on all dispensers, regardless of the fuel brand sold. The ease of decal change was a consideration in this decision as no on site painting will be required if the supplying fuel company is changed.
David Penny, winner of Best Site with a License to Sell Alcohol at the 2014 Forecourt Trader Awards, promotes the sale of groceries and beverages on the forecourt, and the Tokheim T-Media screens installed on the majority of Penny Petroleum sites will further compliment the Londis in store offerings.

Seeking a competitive offer, Tokheim UK was tasked with providing Booths with expert knowledge and professional guidance throughout the decision making process.
Tokheim UK team managed the project from start to finish with minimal delay or interruption to sales on site. Expert project management leading to the efficient installation of modern equipment and reliable back up support has given a significant boost to the Booths site and business.
As a result of the success with the Longridge station, further locations are currently planned and Tokheim are extremely well placed to partner for the full development of the brand new sites in the future. Tokhiem are delighted to be working with Booths again on new projects and we are looking forward to further developing this valued partnership.
AS24, one of the main diesel suppliers to haulage contractors in Europe, selected Tokheim to build a new truck station in Turnhout, Belgium. The design, ground piping, new fuel dispensers as well as the LED lighting were fully developed, supplied, installed and project-managed by Tokheim as a main contractor.
The new truck station has been equipped with a range of innovative Tokheim’s Quantium dispensers, including the 510 high-speed diesel and the 110 AdBlue and diesel models. The Quantium dispensers have been delivered with stainless steel cladding panels providing a long-lasting weatherproof solution and a professional appearance.

The Crypto VGA was the first fuel outdoor payment terminal to be certified PCI PTS POI 3.x OEM PED & UPT. Now this certification has been extended for SRED/Open Protocols. SRED (Secure Reading and Exchange of Data) is an important requirement in order to maximise security and protect the cardholder’s data, and allows implementation of true Point-to-Point encryption (P2PE) solutions.
Crypto VGA hardware meets the latest PCI requirements, and adding PCI PTS POI 4.x is simply a matter of a software upgrade.
The applicable certification updates are part of Tokheim continuous improvement, aligning with our strategy of providing the best-in-class security and offering an extended life cycle of the Crypto VGA – all to the benefit of our customers.
DiaLOG, designed for fleet and commercial companies of all sizes, is an established and well proven fuel management system that allows the more effective control of fuel. Following feedback that highlighted the latest requirements for the commercial fleet operators to know what happens in and around their fuel depot, DiaLog has been upgraded.
DiaLOG fuel management system now offers the integration of an Input / Output box (I/O box) that can be used to have extended alert features:
Inputs can be used to trigger an event that can be configured to be treated as an alert
Outputs can be used to activate variety of features, such as an alarm bell in case an alert is raised
The I/O box is controlled by DiaLOG through the TCP/IP network, connected by an Ethernet switch. Any DiaLOG terminal having network connectivity to an I/O box can control it. If a single I/O box is not sufficient, several boxes can be used to increase the number of inputs or outputs, with a limit of 4 per terminal.
The additional features of the DiaLog will better connect operators to activities within their fuel depot – yet another innovative solution from Tokheim.

See what our clients say about Station Manager 365.
Two major industry players award business to Fairbanks
Fairbanks is delighted to announce new agreements with Topaz Energy Limited and Motor Fuels Group.
From the 1st June Ireland’s largest fuel and convenience brand, Topaz Energy Limited, have benefited from ‘round the clock’ fuel management protection of their 124 company owned sites following a new five year agreement with Fairbanks signed by Topaz Retail Director, Sean Moriarty.
As part of the agreement, Topaz have the added benefit of using the innovative, newly developed, Station Manager 365. This intelligent, web-based system, with its user-friendly interface has been designed to interpret and present the forecourt information in a clear and ‘easy to understand’ manner. Station Manager 365 is compatible with any laptop, tablet or smart phone, which means the Topaz team can control operations remotely with ease by accessing real-time data whenever they need it.
Jeremy Clarke – Managing Director of Motor Fuels Group
In addition, Motor Fuels Group, the UK’s second largest forecourt operator, have committed to Fairbanks fuel management service for another three years. The contract, signed by Jeremy Clarke, Managing Director of MFG, commenced in February this year. MFG, who operate 287 company sites, have opted for the Fairbanks premium service level which includes full data analysis by the Fairbanks team, night-time loss alerts, remote alarm management, annual pump measure checks, DSEAR risk assessment and hazardous zone drawings.
Fairbanks will collect and centralise the data being generated in real time from the pumps and tanks across the networks of both Topaz and MFG via the Fairbanks iBank, a compact hardware device installed in the forecourt back office. This information is then hosted in the Fairbanks ‘Cloud’ – a secure means of storing real-time data, which is instantly and easily accessible by forecourt managers. A dedicated team of Fairbanks analysts will work with the information to identify issues of concern – such as leaks and/ or fuel theft – managing any subsequent investigations to pin point the source and find the quickest possible solution, whilst best protecting the environment and reducing the potential for fuel loss incidents.
“We are delighted to secure this agreement with the Topaz company sites after three successful years servicing their dealer network. Fairbanks is currently enjoying great success in the Irish market place having already secured contracts with Applegreen and Maxol. We are confident the introduction of Station Manager 365 will ensure the continued growth of our market share in this ever evolving industry” said Tony Mills, Global Sales and Marketing Director of Fairbanks.
Steve Jones – Managing Director of Fairbanks
“We are very pleased to retain MFG’s custom for yet another three years. At Fairbanks we always pride ourselves on providing the highest level of customer care and I am confident that we can continue to deliver this standard to MFG both now and in the future.” added Steve Jones, Managing Director of Fairbanks.
Earlier this year, Tokheim bid a fond farewell to John Harley who retired after 20 successful years as Factory Manager of The Dispenser Manufacturing Centre (DMC) in Dundee, Scotland.
John started his career with the company, initially with the RPS Division of Schlumberger, in September 1995 having previously worked in the electronics industry.
His wealth of knowledge of manufacturing operations and skill for management within the field enabled him and his team to take the company to the new heights. The success of the DMC today is a testament to John’s lasting commitment to creating a safe, cost efficient operation with a focus on producing the highest quality products under the ethos ‘The customer is king’.
Bill Arundel, Tokheim Group Sales and Marketing Director said of John, “All of our customers who have met John, our partners and our Sales and Service Division General Managers have huge respect and affection for him. It is not so easy to receive such accolade. It has to be earned and it has to be maintained to deliver continued success. John has always delivered.” John will be enjoying his retirement spending more time with his family, including his five grandchildren, and attending many football matches.
As Tokheim say goodbye to John, we welcome his successor Ken Scobie as the Factory Manager. Ken, who has been with Tokheim for many years, and worked alongside John throughout his career, reflected: “We are all going to miss John and it is our duty to look after the business he spent 20 years nurturing.” With a solid experience of working in several manufacturing businesses (pharmaceuticals, aerospace, furniture and whisky), Ken joined DMC as Financial Controller in 1999. His role diversified over the years to include financial responsibility for Tokheim manufacturing operations and more recently with the UK & Ireland Sales & Service units. We wish him continued success in his new role and we believe he will maintain the highest standards of manufacturing and delivery to our customers and the industry.
At Tokheim, we are continually trying to improve services and the fuelling experience for our customers. Increasing the efficiency of day-to-day activities of our on the ground Service Technicians is one of the key reasons that Tokheim continues to deliver excellent, industry leading customer service.
With this in mind, the start of 2015 saw Tokheim equip Service Technicians in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy and the UK with tablets.
Using state of the art applications, the tablets connect the technicians to our office based Customer Service Centres, creating a direct line of communication for each service intervention. Information is uploaded and exchanged between our Customer Service Centres and the tablets in real time, allowing the technician to navigate to the intervention, carry out the service required, and complete any follow up actions as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The user-friendly interface allows our technicians to view all the interventions in their area, displaying specific and detailed information on the reported issue. Once on site the technician can use the tablet to report the intervention from start to finish utilising its many features, such as taking photos for reference or using the messenger function to send and receive instructions to the Customer Service Centres in real-time.
With health and safety being Tokheim’s highest priority, tablet holders have been installed in company vehicles, doubling as a practical solution for maintaining the tablet’s battery charge on the road.
The roll out of the tablets has been very well received by Tokheim technicians who enjoy the functionality the digital solution brings to their day-to-day activities. Carrying out tasks has been made easier and more effectively, whilst delivering to our customers a more efficient service and shorter downtime of their station.
