Tokheim is pleased to welcome to the Dispenser Manufacturing Centre in Dundee, United Kingdom, our four Engineering Summer Interns for 2017. Our interns are students at The University of Dundee, and have recently completed the third year of their Mechanical Engineering degree. Over the next twelve weeks all four interns will work in the Mechanical Engineering department supporting Tokheim Engineers with exciting development projects.

As part of Tokheim’s continued engagement with the local community, schools and universities, Tokheim has established a strong link with The University of Dundee, participating in the annual Problem Solving Industrialisation Visit (PSIV) programme, intake of summer interns and hiring of full time graduates as part of our IMechE registered programme.

L to R: James Stein, Scott Hunter, Ayoola Oshodi, Scott Fyffe

Mike Gilbert, Engineering Manager at Tokheim, said, “We are extremely proud to have developed a sought after Graduate Programme that is registered with the IMechE (Institute of Mechanical Engineers), that ensures we attract, recruit, develop and retain Engineering graduates and we in return can provide an opportunity for them to become Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered (CEng) Engineers.

It is vital that we hire new talent with a solid education in the latest practices and technologies to ensure we are keeping an eye on the future. The programme is a demonstration of our commitment to this mindset.”

We met with our interns to hear their thoughts:

Ayoola, James, Scott. H and Scott. F, welcome to the team!

Tell me how you discovered the Tokheim Engineering Summer Graduate Programme?

Ayoola: “Mike Gilbert and Karen Webster, (Senior HR Manager, Dover Fueling Solutions) visited our University as part of a careers event in March of this year and from that talk we learned about Tokheim and the what they could offer Engineering students like us.”

Scott. H: “We learned the Summer Programme offered 12 weeks of ‘Real World’ experience and so we all submitted our independent applications and were successful. We were very interested to hear about Tokheim’s various Employee engagement initiative’s and I was great to see from day one they are truly a part of the company culture at Tokheim.”

Tell me about your first day.

Scott. F: “The first day was brilliant – we were introduced the Tokheim Engineers and other colleagues in the office, and then we were able to focus on getting to grips with the systems we will be using throughout our Summer placement.”

Scott. H: “The office environment is really positive. The open floor plan means that everyone is approachable, and everyone I have met so far is friendly.”

We are always pleased when new talent chooses Tokheim. What attracted you to our business?

James: “We know it’s an exciting time for Tokheim, following the acquisition by Dover last year and the formation of DFS [Dover Fueling Solutions] this year. I know DFS is the first company of its kind so there is plenty of opportunity for newcomers to the field at Tokheim; it’s an exciting time to be a part of the business.”

Have any of you completed a Summer Placement in the past?

Ayoola: “I have completed a Summer Placement, but not related to Engineering. The placement at Tokheim will be very valuable to my career development as it’s specific to my degree.”

What in your opinion are the benefits of taking part in our Summer Programme?

Scott. H: “Being able to apply the theory we have learned at University to the ‘Real World’ working environment is a fantastic experience. This is the first opportunity we have had of this kind and it’s fantastic!”
